Biography

Picture

I have always thought that our life goal is to improve the world in which we live. I am a scientist and this is my way of changing the world.
Since I was a little girl, I had always wanted to be a doctor but when I got to university I realised that people can be helped from other perspectives besides health. So I studied veterinary medicine at University of Zaragoza (Spain) and discovered that science and working in the lab were my passion.

I spent my doctoral years studying intestinal physiology and how the serotonergic system and the innate immune system were connected.
I learned many things, did many experiments, travelled to many conferences but I realised that I needed much more. So I started my postdoctoral adventure at University of Exeter (UK) where I studied human ageing. In 2018, I joined the University of Zaragoza as a lecturer in Immunology at Faculty of Sciences.

Research Interests

As a cell biologist, I am passionate about cell funtion and disfunction in diseases. I am interested in the implication of immune system on several diseases and how we could benefit from these interactions to develop new therapeutic targets.

Research Projects

- Role of age-associated inflammation in moderation of alternative splicing and its impact on age-related disease.

- Molecular mechanisms involved in chronic intestinal diseases in response to microbiota: role of the intestinal serotonergic system.
